Houston Arboretum
& Nature Center

4501 Woodway
713-681-8433

The Houston Arboretum & Nature Center is located near Memorial Park, and
contains an exhibition center and great nature trails.  Admission to the center
and trails is free.  There is a fee for the classes.

For Boy Scouts:

The Arboretum offers classes that cover parts of the following merit badges:

Reptile & Amphibian Study
Bird Study
Nature
Fish & Wildlife Management
These classes are 9:00a to 2:30p, with a lunch break.  The fee is $20 per
class.  The classes cover most but not all of the requirements for each badge.
The Arboretum website (see below) offers a description of each class and states
which parts of the requirements must be completed outside of the class.

The self-guided tours are great for covering the Nature components of
Second Class (Reqmt #5) and First Class (Reqmt #6) advancement.

For Cub Scouts & Webelos:

The Arboretum is a great place to hold den meetings.  The space inside the
Nature Center is limited, and meetings should be held outside.  There are
several rooms available for rent.  For Webelos, parts of the Forester and
Naturalist activity badges/pins can be covered.
