Houston Museum
of Natural Science

One Hermann Drive Circle
713-639-4620

The Houston Museum of Natural Science is located in Hermann Park, across from
Miller Theater.  The HMNS contains a wide range of exhibits, an IMAX theater,
planetarium, and a butterfly house center.  Admission to the various sections of
the HMNS range from $3 to $6.50, with reductions for members.  There is a fee for
the classes.  See schedule below.

For Boy Scouts:

The HMNS offers classes that cover parts of the following merit badges:

Archeology
Astronomy
Bird Study
Chemistry
Energy
Geology
Indian Lore
Insect Study
Reptile & Amphibian Study
These classes are 5 hrs in length (including a lunch break).  Some classes have a
second 1.5 hr session.  The fee is $25 or $30 per class.

Each of these classes is taught by a SHAC-registered merit badge counselor.
The classes cover most but not all of the requirements for each badge.  The HMNS
website (see below) offers a description of each class and states which parts of
the requirements must be completed outside of the class.

For Cub Scouts & Webelos:

Although there is an admission fee, the HMNS is a great place to hold den meeting.
For Webelos, parts of the Geologist, Naturalist and Scientist activity badges/pins
can be covered informally by studying the relevant exhibits.  Some of the IMAX
movies can provide the groundwork for discussing scouting topics.

The HMNS also offers classes that cover all or most of the requirements for the
following:

For Webelos:  Engineer, Forester, Geologist, Naturalist,
     and Scientist activity badges/pins
For Cubs:  the Science belt loop & pin
These classes are 2 hrs in length, and the fee is $15 per scout.
