(also known as Outdoor Leader Skills for Webelos Leaders)
These are two separate courses. However, as much of the material is
common to both courses, the two courses are usually taught concurrently.
Participants will received both the BALOO and the OWLS certifications.

BALOO is designed for any Cub leader who camps or is in charge of Pack camping. BSA rules now require at least one BALOO trained adults in order to obtain a tour permit for Pack camping. |
| This is a one-day course, usually conducted in town. The course covers: |

OWLS is designed for any Webelos leader who will be involved in camping or other outdoor activities. This course is also good Bear leaders who will become Webelos leaders. This is a one-day course, usually conducted in town. The course covers the skills related to several of the Webelos activity pins, as well as general camping skills. This course also highlights the transition from Cub Scouting to the boy-led patrol system used in Troops. The participants share ideas for age-appropriate activities for Webelos. Webelos leaders may also wish to consider the course Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills. The IOLS course involves a weekend campout and covers the outdoor skills in greater detail. While OWLS focuses on Webelos, IOLS focuses on the outdoor skills required for the Boy Scout ranks of Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class. For additional info on the IOLS course, click here. |
